For 140 years, The Salvation Army has brought hope and support in Cambridge, standing by those in need with unwavering commitment. As a caring and trusted NGO, they've diligently provided essential services such as food, clothing, school supplies, and necessities for the unsheltered, all without discrimination.

This holiday season, The Salvation Army invites you to join their mission of compassion through their uplifting Christmas campaigns: the Toy Mountain Toy Shop and the Christmas Kettle campaign.

Toy Mountain Toy Shop Campaign: This initiative aims to ensure that every child experiences the joy of Christmas morning. By donating toys, you can help build a 'mountain' of joy, bringing smiles to children who might otherwise go without. It’s a simple yet profound way to make a difference in a child’s life.

Donations for Toy Mountain can be dropped off at 637 King Street E, Preston, Cambridge. All toys donated stay in Cambridge and benefit local children.

Christmas Kettle Campaign: A familiar sight during the holiday season, the Christmas Kettle campaign is vital for raising funds that support The Salvation Army’s numerous programs. Your contributions help sustain their year-round efforts in providing essential services to the community.

Both campaigns are an opportunity to give back and spread holiday cheer.

A Foundation of Service to Others

The Salvation Army operates on a foundation of principles that emphasize service to others, compassion, and a commitment to uplifting the human spirit. Their doctrines focus on spreading love, peace, and understanding, forming the backbone of their extensive charitable work. As the festive season approaches, you are invited to be part of these heartwarming initiatives. Your support, whether through volunteering or donating, can transform lives and bring hope where it's needed most.

Captain Darren Woods, The Salvation Army Cambridge Community Services Executive Director, shares, “When you donate a toy, gift, or gift card to our Toy Mountain campaign you are ensuring that a child in our city experiences the joy and excitement of Christmas morning. Our kettle campaign is our only major fundraiser in the city of Cambridge. When you donate to our kettle campaign you are supplementing our Toy Mountain campaign financially, and you are also funding the rest of our charitable programs, year-round.”

Those programs include the second largest food bank in the city, a free emergency clothing bank, back-to-school supplies program, the Kids Summer Camp program, and the Operation Hope in Cambridge, to name just a few.

“Both of our Christmas campaigns are heavily dependent on volunteers,” he adds. “Perhaps you don’t have a lot of spare cash to donate, or perhaps it’s too inconvenient for you to go out and purchase a toy to donate – you can still help! You could give us a couple of hours of your time to sort toys, to serve clients, to stand on a kettle and say ‘thank you’ to donors. You could be ‘the Army’ behind the Army!”

He concludes, “We are tremendously grateful for your generous support in past years, and we are looking forward to your help and support again this year. God bless.”
