It’s the countdown to kickoff!

As football fans get ready for Super Bowl LVIII, organizers with the Gaslight District in Cambridge are putting the final touches on their own event – a free, one-of-a-kind Super Bowl Party right in the heart of Cambridge.

Bring your grills, bring your drinks, bring your team spirit, because on February 11 the outdoor square will play host to the biggest party in Ontario.

Football fans, you’ll need to get ready and show your pride as the Kansas City Chiefs lock horns with the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of their 2020 classic.

The Gaslight District will have it all – a live broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII on the district's Big Screen, and a friendly, open air environment where people are encouraged to bring food, drinks, and decorations.

The Super Bowl Party is people-friendly, that means the district is closed to vehicles. But grills, coolers, umbrellas…anything, really!...is good to go.

What could be better than watching NFL giants – Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Christian McCaffrey, Rashee Rice, Brock Purdy, Chris Jones – on a glorious, 20ft screen?

How about taking part in one of the largest tailgate parties you’ve ever been invited to, minus the vehicles, of course?

The District will be opening Sunday at 9:00 am, and organizers are encouraging tailgaters to arrive around 4:30 pm. The Super Bowl kickoff is expected at 6:30 p.m. EST.

The Foundry Tavern will be open during the event, so fans can be sure to stop in at their favourite tavern for food and beverages. No reservations required, but the bar area is first come, first served!

But what makes the event so special?

Scott Higgins, one of the organizers behind the Gaslight District’s Super Bowl Party, says the appeal of the annual contest on the gridiron is nearly universal.

“The Super Bowl is a spectacle – a great sport, an over-the-top halftime show, hilarious new commercials and now even Swifties - it’s sports theatre at its best,” Higgins says, dropping a reference to musical icon Taylor Swift.

Swift has been making appearances at Kansas City Chiefs games recently, supporting her partner, the burly tight end Travis Kelce.

And halftime shows – which will be on full display in the district – have taken on a life of their own.

The headliner for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show is Usher, the Grammy-winning R&B artist best known for hits such as "Yeah!," “Love in this Club,” "U Got It Bad," "My Boo" and "Confessions Part II."

The Super Bowl also features music as a way to kick off the event. Country Music Hall of Fame singer Reba McEntire will be performing the national anthem. Joining her on stage will be Post Malone, delivering his rendition of "America the Beautiful," and R&B artist Andra Day singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

Additionally, DJ Tiësto is set to cement his own place in Super Bowl history, becoming the event’s first-ever in-game DJ. He will entertain the crowd with a set during pre-game player warm-ups and during various breaks throughout the game.
