Start planning your costumes and get those candy bags ready. The Gaslight District is celebrating the spookiest time of year with a series of fun – and frightening! – events for all ages.
From outdoor screenings on the District’s big screen, to a brand-new trick-or-treat trail, this October is set to be an epic mix of thrills and chills.
Imagine this: the cool October air, the warm glow of lanterns lighting up the district, and a giant screen showing your Halloween classics under the stars. This is Halloween magic at its finest.
Leslie Kay, Creative Director for the Gaslight District, believes these events tap into more than just a love for spooky films — they rekindle the sense of wonder and nostalgia that Halloween is known for.
“This year’s lineup of films taps into multiple layers of nostalgia from Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice to Hocus Pocus and Scooby-Doo,” Kay says. “We’re also making new Halloween memories with our younger audience by showing some of their favourites like Hotel Transylvania and newer hits like Disney’s The Haunted Mansion.”
The Gaslight District’s Halloween continue on Saturday, October 26th with the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. The free outdoor screening starts at 7:00 PM, and because it’s a tradition with fans of the film, audience participation – that means costumes! – is encouraged.
You can pre-order $5 prop kits or buy them on-site to join in on the fun. For those wanting a bit more, Doll Haus Events is taking over The Underwing with a Rocky Horror Drag Show. It's already sold out, so if you grabbed tickets, get ready for an unforgettable experience!
The following Tuesday, October 29th, features a family-friendly Halloween celebration. The Big Screen Halloween double feature begins at 5:30 PM with Hotel Transylvania followed by The Haunted Mansion at 7:00 PM. Families are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and dress up in costume for a cozy, free outdoor screening.
But the highlight for kids – parents, too! – will be the Gaslight District Trick-or-Treat Trail, running from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM or while supplies last. Presented by Rego Team, the trail offers free candy at over 10 trick-or-treating booths throughout the District.
“I think this is just the beginning of a really special tradition here in the heart of Galt,” Kay says. “I’m excited to see how this grows in the coming years.”
Rounding off the Halloween week on Thursday, October 31st, is The Big Scream, a double-feature night perfect for horror enthusiasts. With Young Frankenstein at 6:00 PM and Scream at 8:00 PM, movie lovers can enjoy the magic of spooky films under the stars.
For Kay, the unique atmosphere of the Gaslight District plays a key role in creating the perfect Halloween experience.
“Our property has a rich history and a few ghost stories that go along with it — just ask the staff at Foundry Tavern, they’ll tell you a few!” she says.
“It’s the perfect venue to grow and foster the central hub of Cambridge’s Halloween scene.”
As the District’s Halloween offerings grow, Kay says she hopes visitors will walk away feeling a sense of Halloween magic.
“This year and in the years to come, I hope we can recreate some of that Halloween magic from the ‘80s and ‘90s, from the movies to the experiences,” she says.
“We’re making new memories while introducing a whole new generation to the traditions we loved as kids.”
