Waterloo Regional Police have located and arrested a wanted male in connection to a a kidnapping incident in Wellesley.

David Sherk, 50, from Paris, was located in the Niagara Region by a member of the public who recognized him from the WRPS media releases.

With the assistance of the Niagara Regional Police, Sherk was found and placed under arrest.

Sherk is being charged with attempting kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

The accused is currently being held for a bail hearing.

 Waterloo Regional Police are seeking a wanted male on kidnapping charges after a female was assaulted in Wellesley Township.

On Aug. 13, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a male, armed with a knife, attended a property in the area of Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road and attempted to force an adult female into a vehicle. The female managed to escape, and the male fled in a vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned.

Police have identified the male suspect as David Sherk, 50, of Paris.

Sherk is currently wanted on charges of kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, please do not approach him but call 911 immediately.

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to search for an unknown male who assaulted a female in Wellesley Township.

On Aug. 13, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police responded to the area of Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road for reports of an attempted robbery.

A female was approached by an unknown male at her residence. The male assaulted the female and brandished a knife towards her. Local bystanders observed the incident and intervened. The male left the scene prior to police arrival.

There were no reports of any physical injuries.

The vehicle was located by police, and it was believed the male suspect fled by foot into a wooded area.

WRPS’ Emergency Response Team, Canine Team, Patrol, and York Regional Police (YRP) attended the area to search for the suspect. WRPS’ remotely piloted vehicle (RPV) and YRP’s helicopter were deployed to aid in the search.

Due to concerns for public safety, a hold and secure was issued for the area.

The area was contained for approximately five hours while officers cleared the area.

From the search, it was determined the suspect was no longer in the area and police lifted the hold and secure.
