Two-car collision in city's south end downs hydro lines, causes fire

One driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and faces a charge for failing to yield

Emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision that resulted in a vehicle fire and damage to the hydro pole.

A Hamilton driver has been charged with failing to yield after two vehicles collided in the city's south end this morning, downing hydro lines and causing one vehicle to catch fire.

Waterloo Regional Police’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating the accident that happened near Dundas Street South and Branchton Road around 10:45 a.m.

Police said a Lexus attempted to make a left turn from Branchton Road onto Dundas Street South and crossed into the path of a Kia SUV. The Kia hit the Lexus then stuck a hydro pole, resulting in a vehicle fire and damage to the pole.

The driver of the Lexus, an 81-year-old woman from Hamilton, was transported to a local hospital with minor physical injuries.

The driver of the Kia did not sustain any physical injuries.

The intersection of Dundas Street South and Branchton Road remains closed for hydro pole repairs.

The Hamilton driver was charged with failing to yield to traffic under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
