A 31-year-old Toronto driver is facing several charges after his vehicle was t-boned by the ION train on King Street West yesterday as he attempted to make a u-turn.
Waterloo regional police say around 9:40 a.m. Thursday, emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a Dodge vehicle and an ION Light Rail Transit (LRT) in front of Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the LRT reported no physical injuries.
The roads and rail line were closed for several hours while officers conducted the investigation and repairs were completed.
As a result of the investigation, a man was charged with the following:
- Careless driving
- Turn- not in safety
- Drive- hand-held communication device
