Police close off Water Street and Concession Street for an investigation this morning.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a 17-year-old male falling from a bridge in Cambridge earlier today.

Preliminary information suggests that around 3:40 a.m. on July 2, an individual contacted police to report that a male was standing on the railing of a bridge located at Concession Street and Water Street.

Officers located the teenager, who was determined to be in crisis, and attempted to negotiate with him.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., the teenager fell from the bridge and into the Grand River below.

Emergency personnel located him and pulled him out of the water. He was vital signs absent. CPR was initiated.

The teenager was transported to hospital where he is in critical condition.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
