Police close off Water Street and Concession Street for an investigation early Tuesday.

A 17-year-old male who fell from the Concession Street bridge in Cambridge early Tuesday morning has died from his injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit began investigating the circumstances surrounding the teen's fall from the bridge because Waterloo Regional Police Service attempted to negotiate with the distressed male before he fell.

Police went to Concession Street and Water Street in Cambridge around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a male standing on the railing of the bridge.

Officers located the male, who was determined to be in crisis, and attempted to negotiate with him.

Shortly after, the teenager fell from the bridge and into the Grand River below. He was rescued but found with vital signs absent.

CPR was initiated and the teenager was transported to hospital.

On July 3, while in hospital, the youth was pronounced deceased.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator continue to investigate the case. At this time, one subject official and six witness officials have been designated. The post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
