A 48-year man from Cambridge is facing numerous charges after provincial police say the U-Haul he was driving struck other vehicles while travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Napanee last Friday.
The Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the OPP responded to multiple calls for help around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 6.
Callers told them a U-Haul was being driven recklessly at a high rate of speed and subsequent calls for service were received in neighbouring jurisdictions in regard to the U-Haul striking other vehicles along Highway 401.
Officers were told the vehicle had come to a stop near Highway 15 and Highway 401, where the driver had fled into a passing vehicle, before jumping out of the vehicle near Joyceville Road and proceeded to flee on foot.
With the assistance of the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and members of the Frontenac OPP Detachment, the driver was arrested a short time later.
The man was later charged with two counts of dangerous operation, four counts of failing to stop for an accident and one count of stunt driving.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
