A series of fraudulent taxi fare charges and fake jewelry bait-and-switch has Waterloo regional police warning the public about the return of the common scams.
On Jan. 15, at around 5 p.m., police received six reports about a taxi fare fraud in Kitchener.
Victims were approached in parking lots by an individual who requested assistance paying for a fare. The victims provided payment by debit card in exchange for cash. The transactions were later identified as fraudulent.
The general investigations unit continues to investigate these incidences.
Police have also responded to other incidences in the region where individuals offer fake jewelry as gifts, attempt to put it on, and steal jewelry the victim was wearing previously.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour, or has information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777.
