Kitchener man arrested after allegedly yelling, approaching police with knife

Police say they negotiated with the 65-year-old man for several hours before he was safely taken into custody

Waterloo Regional Police arrest a male after a weapons incident in Kitchener.

On Sunday, at approximately 12:10 a.m., police responded to reports of a weapons incident at a residence in the area of Ottawa Street South.

Through investigation it was determined that bylaw enforcement officers attended a residence for a bylaw complaint when a male resident approached the officers while holding a knife and yelling at them.

Officers, including the Emergency Response Team, attended the residence and negotiated with the male for several hours before the male was safely taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 65-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
