A dog is dead and a 71-year-old Waterloo woman is in hospital after she was struck while out for a walk this morning.
Waterloo regional police said around 7:50 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a Toyota Sienna and a pedestrian at the intersection of University Avenue East and Woolwich Street in Waterloo.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old female from Waterloo, did not sustain any physical injuries.
A dog that was being walked by the pedestrian died as a result of the collision.
The intersection was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing, and charges are anticipated.
