A Cambridge man is facing multiple impaired driving-related charges after a vehicle was found in a ditch on Innisfil’s 6th Line Sunday.

South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a report of a crashed vehicle Jan. 19 at about 5:20 p.m. When police arrived on scene, they observed a man walking into the ditch toward the vehicle.

“Officers spoke with the male and determined he was the driver,” the department said in a media release issued Monday morning.

After further investigation, two breath samples were provided. These indicated the suspect allegedly had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. As a result, the 25-year-old was charged with operation while impaired, and operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration of over 80).

“Impaired driving is a crime in progress,” the department said. “(Police) would like to remind drivers to ALWAYS drive sober to ensure you arrive alive and protect the lives of other motorists and pedestrians. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and it depends on the decisions you make.”

Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver is urged to call 911 immediately, police say.

The suspect was released with a future court date.
