January 21 1955 - February 23 2025

It is with great sadness we announce that Walter Welsand of Hespeler, Ontario passed away at Innisfree Hospice on February 23 2025.

He was a beloved father, opa, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Walt was a second generation Canadian who was devoted to the village of Hespeler. He had a love for playing baseball and possessed an innate ability for the game. A proud Sheet Metal worker, beers and ball were his life before meeting his wife Gisele who finally added real groceries to his bread and peanut butter filled pantry. He then devoted his time and energy to providing for his family.

Having helped with his parent’s large garden as a child, Walter developed a green thumb and a true passion for gardening. He spent countless hours on this pastime over his lifespan. All who entered his yard on Black Street were in awe of his skill and dedication. His love of gladioluses and marigolds was obvious in his garden beds.

Over the years, Walter was often spotted in a Dallas Cowboys jersey; however, he opted for the “Red, White and Blue” when it came to hockey. The Montreal Canadiens were his favorite team and he loved the rivalry against family and friends who were Leafs fans.

A lover of animals who always helped those in need, Walter has many furry friends, friends, and family waiting for him on the other side.

Walter was predeceased by his wife, Gisele Welsand (Larocque), and his parents, Eugenie (Zimmerman) and Karl Welsand. Walter is survived by his children: Karl Welsand (Samantha), Cassandra Welsand (Brent), and Dave Larocque (Dawn), his grandchildren: Scarlett, Gavin, Slaeden, Gaebriel, Alice, and Brittany. He is also survived by his brother Arnold Welsand (Cathy)

Walter’s kindness, love for learning, and joy in life's simple pleasures will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge at 1pm on March 22, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm. Friends and family are welcome to share memories. A reception with light refreshments will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Innisfree Hospice on Walter’s behalf.
