It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Carla Veldhuis on October 27, 2022, at Grand River Hospital due to Covid complications, at the age of 92.
Beloved wife and soulmate of the late Evert Jan Veldhuis (2008). Carla leaves behind her two daughters, Jolanda (Chuck) and Elizabeth (George). She was the proud oma to Ted, Katryna (Kamil), Dan (Addy), Krista (Andy), Ben (Tori), and great oma to Ashe and Sebastian.
Carla (Klaasje) was born August 22, 1930 in The Netherlands, an only child to Lambertus and Elizabeth Bosch. She grew up in a small town before and during the years of WW2 occupation. A few years after marriage to Evert they immigrated to Canada in 1958 to start a new life. A decade later Evert co-founded a small construction company and Carla ran the household, receiving great joy from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carla and Evert were members of the Dutch Canadian Club, travelled to Mexico,Indonesia and different areas within Europe numerous times, and were weekly bowlers. Carla enjoyed flowers and gardening, and continued bowling into her 90’s.
In recent years Carla immensely enjoyed living independently at the Fairview Seniors Apartments where she would enjoy her monthly “lunch bunch” travel outings, bowling, dining room get togethers and other social events. Driving until her late 80’s, she was very active even with her recent medical issues (diabetes and cancer) - she was determined and resilient.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family in a casual gathering to celebrate her life between 1:00 and 4:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 in the Reception Room at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew’s Street, Cambridge.
Cremation has taken place. At Carla’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service.
