April 29, 1939 – January 10, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Reginald Arthur Smith. Dad passed away peacefully at age 85, with family at his side.
Reginald is the father of Mark, Annie K., and Lauren, and grandfather of Rachel, Julia, Brandon, and Sara.
Reginald’s life was filled with diverse interests, but his greatest joy was his family. He was a man of many passions: a lifelong enthusiast of media, golf, community service, nature, travel and meaningful connections with others.
He enjoyed an extensive and accomplished career in the newspaper industry, excelling in reporting, publishing, and management. His dedication to the craft was evident through his many years with the Cambridge Reporter and the Hamilton Spectator.
Outside of his professional achievements, Reginald spent countless hours on the golf course, where his love of the game and camaraderie shone. He was also deeply committed to his community, dedicating time and energy to raising funds for numerous local organizations, leaving an invaluable mark on the lives of many.
He found peace and joy in nature, especially at the beach. Reginald cherished his time spent in the sunny South, embracing the warmth and serenity it offered. His genuine curiosity about others and his gift for storytelling made him a captivating presence, often regaling family and friends with tales of his formative years in South Africa.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. Reginald will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We are grateful for the caring, supportive staff at St. Andrew’s Terrace, who helped make Dad’s last years happy and fulfilled.
Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 96 St Andrews Street, Cambridge on Wednesday, January 15th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A private family funeral will follow on Thursday, January 16th.
