July 10, 1927 – February 25, 2025
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Jean McKinlay in her 98th year, surrounded by her family at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Dearly loved mother of son Dan and her grandchildren Adam Brydges and Shannon (Nathan) Howson and very special great grandma to her children Hazel and Henry. Also survived by her brother Alex (Jane) McColl, sister-in-law Gail McColl and several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents Alex and Jean and brother Duncan and sisters Barbara and Joanne.
Marjorie had a love of life, family and friends, the outdoors, animal welfare, cottage life and travelling. She will be missed by her many dear and close friends from Heritage Meadows Senior Living where she thrived over the past 5 years.
Born in Michigan and raised in West Lorne, Ontario, Marjorie started her career journey teaching, first in various one room schoolhouses in West Elgin. After moving to Cambridge (Preston) in the 60's, she taught elementary grades and supply taught students in the 1970's. In retirement, her favourite winter sport was curling and she was a team member at the Cambridge Curling Club. Marjorie had a very soft spot in her heart for all animals but particularly dogs. She had many four-legged friends throughout her life and supported animal interests for many years.
Arrangements entrusted to Barthel Funeral Home and cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Marjorie's life will take place on Saturday, March 1st 2025 at 11:00 am, at the funeral home located at 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, Ontario. A reception will follow.
A private interment at West Lorne Evergreen Cemetery will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Cambridge Humane Society would be appreciated.
Dan and family would like to thank the caregivers at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for providing care and comfort for mom and grandmother in her final days. A visit from local pastors Mark and Mike were also much appreciated.
