January 2, 1928 – January 14, 2025
After a long battle with dementia, Alice passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Trinity Village LTC where she resided for the past five and a half years.
Alice was born in Murmerwoude, Friesland, Netherlands to Lieuwe and Dirkje Wynia (predeceased). Lifelong soulmate to her loving husband, Bill (Wiep) (predeceased in 2006). Cherished mother to Trudy (Dennis), Diane (John), Margaret (Dwayne), Janette (Reed), Alex (Jennifer). Predeceased by her infant son, Simeon. Precious Oma to grandchildren Effie, Bethia, Sebastian, Steve, Brad (Sierra), Tyler (Anna), Jenny (Ben). “Great” Oma to Melody and Norah. She will be missed by her sister, Jenny and her brothers, John and Ted. Predeceased by siblings Meindert, Sjoerd, Marie, Dieuwke, Corrie, Nellie and Gerard.
Alice had a strong faith in Christ Jesus, reading her Bible daily and loved worshiping Him whenever she could. She had an amazing touch with gardening and spent many hours knitting, reading, going for walks and connecting with friends and family. Alice and Bill enjoyed nature and traveling and were often seen walking hand in hand.
Besides raising her family, Alice worked outside the home at KFC, Goudies Department Store, General Instrument, Smiles and Chuckles, Schneiders Meats and Woolco. She provided loving daycare to several young children who addressed her as “Nana”.
We will miss her dearly and cherish all the wonderful memories of her in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff on the Pinewoods Floor at Trinity Village LTC, for their exceptional care for Alice.
Visitation will be held at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd, Cambridge (Preston) on Monday, January 20 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada.
