April 14, 1957 – January 16, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gus Donkers, who left us peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on January 16, 2025. Gus was born on April 14, 1957, in Galt, Ontario, and spent his life cultivating the land he so dearly loved.
Gus was a devoted husband to Karolina Donkers, and a proud father to his children, Gary (Alice) and Janice (Matt). Above all else, he was a loving and dedicated grandpa to Sonny, who brought him immeasurable joy and became the light of his life.
Gus was born into a close-knit family and was the cherished brother of Frank (Anne), Don (Sherry), John (Dorothy), Joanne (Leo), and Louise (Mark). Throughout his life, his bond with his siblings was a source of great strength and support. He will be greatly missed by the entire Donkers family, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There was nothing in this world that Gus loved more than farming. For him, the land was a calling, not just a way of life. From dawn until dusk, you could always find him working tirelessly with dirt under his fingernails and grease on his hands. Whether it was planting, tilling the fields, or, most of all, harvesting in the combine, Gus found his greatest joy in the simple, honest work of farming. His passion for the farm was evident in everything he did, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Gus will be remembered by family and friends for his boundless energy, dedicated work ethic, and happy spirit. He was the definition of 'all gas, no brakes'—always pushing forward, never slowing down. His larger-than-life presence will be profoundly missed by everyone lucky enough to have known him.
A private family service will be held in honour of Gus’s memory. We welcome family and friends to a Celebration of Life at Gus’s Farm (1322 Branchton Road, Branchton, Ontario) on Sunday February 9th, 2025 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local agricultural society of your choice.
May he rest in peace, forever surrounded by the fields he loved so much.
