MAY 17, 1962 – JULY 8, 2021

Maria Fátima Braga passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on July 8, 2021, at the age of 59 at Grand River Hospital. Fátima, as she was known to all who knew her, was born in São Jorge, Azores, Portugal on May 17, 1962. She moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts at a young age with her parents and then moved to Canada after falling in love with her husband José Manuel Braga, whom she’s been happily married to since July 17, 1982.

She is predeceased by her parents, José Francisco and Maria Conceição da Rosa, whom she loved dearly. She leaves behind sisters Maria de Lurdes (José) Azevedo, Maria da Conceição (José) Silveira, Ana Clara (Manuel) Oliveira, Rosa (Álvaro) Anselmo, Leónia (José) Carreiro and brother Luis (Lucy) da Rosa. She will be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as several godchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Fátima loved life and loved to laugh and was always ready to hear a good joke. She loved her church, Our Lady of Fátima, and was an active participant in both Portuguese annual Festivals, Our Lady of Fátima Festival as well as Sr. Santo Cristo Festival. She loved her family passionately and was always willing to lend a sympathetic ear and to encourage and support anyone who would seek her help and advice.

She will be missed dearly by all who know her, and we take comfort in knowing she will be the next star up in the sky shining down on us from heaven. Although she is gone from this world, she will never truly leave us as she will always be in our hearts forever.

A special “thank you” to the doctors, nurses and all staff at the ICU A at Grand River Hospital for all their care, dedication and understanding during these difficult and challenging times for our family.
