Ryder Roberson was selected by the Peterborough Lakers in Sunday's Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

Ryder Roberson didn't have to wait long to hear his name called in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Sunday.

The Peterborough Lakers selected the Cambridge native in the first round, fifth overall.

Roberson was taken one spot behind Jack McClure of Brantford and two spots behind Ryder Simpson of Guelph, who were picked by Six Nations and Oakville, respectively. Centre Wellington's Riley Woods went first overall to Oakville.

"The OJLL extends its congratulations to all the draftees and their new teams," the OJLL said in a release on its website.

"These athletes represent the future of Junior A lacrosse in Ontario, and we can’t wait to see their contributions to the league."

In 17 games split between the regular season and playoffs for the Junior B Cambridge Highlanders last season, Roberson scored 10 goals and added 19 assists for 29 points. He also accumulated 88 minutes in penalties.

It's not the first time this year Roberson has heard his name called in a draft.

He was selected in the 15th round, 297th overall in the 2024 Ontario Hockey League draft by the Kitchener Rangers and attended the team's training camp this season.

He's currently playing for the Elmira Sugar Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League and has four goals and three assists in 21 games.
