The westbound lanes of Highway 401 will be closed overnight to allow workers to erect girders.

An update on the website of the contractor overseeing work on the Highway 401 expansion project through Cambridge says a complete closure of the westbound lanes of the highway at Hespeler Road will begin at 11 p.m. Aug. 17.

The closure will allow for girder erection and detour routes will be in place until 5 a.m.

Next week, the same closure will happen overnight Aug. 23 in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The westbound on ramps at the Townline Road and Highway 401 interchange is closed for work and it's anticipated that will be in place for the next several months.
