Five Cambridge hockey players will begin the new year by participating in Alliance Hockey showcase games on Jan 5.
At the U18AAA level, forwards Sutton Malty and Matthew Miller have been named to Team White, while forward Leo Lajeunesse will play for Team Navy. With Cambridge not having a U18 team, Malty and Miller are teammates with the Waterloo Wolves and Lajeunesse plays for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.
Cambridge Jr. RedHawks defenceman Aaron Howell and forward Jackson Shewchuk will suit up for Team White in the U16AAA.
The teams dress two goaltenders, six defence and twelve forwards that are selected by teams within the Alliance Hockey league.
The U16 level is an important year as it leads up to the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In the 2024 draft, four Cambridge Minor Hockey Association players were selected.
Earlier this month, three Cambridge players participated in the U15AAA showcase event.
A pregame ceremony is being held before the U18 game at 12:30 p.m. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The U16 pregame ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. with puck drop at 4 p.m.
All games are being played at the Komoka Wellness Centre.
