A possible tornado has been reported as touching down 10 minutes outside of Cambridge in Ayr.
While Cambridge was under a brief tornado watch and got dumped on by torrential rains, no funnel clouds were seen in the skies, but one did apparently touch down minutes from the outskirts of town.
The township of North Dumfries and Waterloo Regional Police Services confirm that there have been reports of a tornado damaging buildings in the area.
"Damages to the roof of the Home Hardware. The business has been evacuated, and no physical injuries were reported. North Dumfries Fire is attending due to smell of natural gas at this location," said WRPS in a post on social media.
The Home Hardware is located at 1148 Northumberland in Ayr, only eight minutes from the edge of Cambridge.
Video posted to Facebook showed the moments the tornado started to form and another view from inside a Foodland showed customers watching as winds whipped debris around in the air.
WRPS warn those who may be outside to not approach or drive over a downed power line and do not touch anything it may be in contact with.
"Downed wires should always be considered energized or 'live,' and extremely dangerous," they said.
"Please note: property damage due to fallen trees etc. does not require a police report. Please contact your insurance provider."
Due to the extreme weather being experienced across the region, the police communications centre is currently experiencing a high call volume.
Police ask the public to refrain from contacting 9-1-1 unless it's an emergency and to use their general line at 519-570-9777 for non-emergency reports.
