The Ed Newland Pool, commonly referred to as "Eddie's Pool," in Preston will be ready to welcome swimmers Thursday.

With temperatures continuously reaching record seasonal highs and back to back heat warnings, the City of Cambridge has decided to open two pools for evening swims to help beat the heat.

The two pools are being opened ahead of the originally scheduled June 18 date. The Ed Newland pool located at 515 William St. and the George Hancock pool located at 115 Glenmorris St. are offering the evening swims.

Swimmers looking to get out of the heat can swim up until 8 p.m. Paid passes will still be needed for these evening swims and can be bought as a day pass or a summer pass.

Splash pads across the city have also been available since last week for families to enjoy the city's parks and cool off on hot days.

The city has a cooling centre at 150 Main St. that is open to the public on days where there is a heat event issued, public libraries in the city are also used as cooling stations
