The city has scheduled a June 18 public meeting to answer any questions about a Cambridge developer's proposal to build 54 stacked townhouse units on a former industrial property located in the city's "regeneration area."
The proposal for 247 Lowther Street North needs an official plan amendment to change the industrial property to low/medium density residential for the three-storey townhouses.
An additional site-specific policy is also necessary to permit a maximum density of 90 units per hectare.
The property at the corner of Lowther and Laurel streets was home to a FedEx Freight facility until it closed early last year.
The city's zoning bylaw would also need to be amended to reduce setback requirements, reduce the gross floor area for one-bedroom units, reduce the current requirement for common amenity area and allow for a parking ration of one space per unit.
Sixty parking spaces are proposed for the 54-unit development.
The complete submission, including planning justification report and preliminary site plan is available to view on the city's website.
The property is located across the street from another industrial property where city staff are considering a proposal to allow a six-tower residential complex containing up to 1,000 one and two bedroom apartments.
The June 18 public meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.
