The long awaited noise wall on McQueen Shaver Boulevard is finally about to become reality.

A Toronto company has won the bidding process to design and install a noise wall along a 1.5 kilometre section of McQueen Shaver Boulevard this year.

Groundbreaking Foundations Inc. will construct the noise wall on the north side of the corridor, from Water Street South to Cheesecake Factory Road, at a cost of $2,492,986.60.

McQueen Shaver was designated as a truck bypass route in the fall of 2023 when the Region of Waterloo began banning through truck traffic in the Galt core and on Concession Street.

Following that, and after two years of complaints from neighbours critical of noise studies that said otherwise, the wall was deemed necessary by regional staff to address traffic sound impacting nearby homes.

A similar noise wall was erected in 2023 along the Franklin Boulevard approach to the McQueen Shaver roundabout after residents there demanded the region build the wall to correct a miscalculation in a noise study along that stretch.
