Three Cambridge organizations earn grants for programs that support seniors

The province has awarded close to $70K in grants to help fund three local projects that promote healthy aging

Three Cambridge not-for-profit community groups and organizations have received close to $70,000 from the province's Seniors Community Grant Program to fund projects, supports and resources that help older adults.

Fairview Mennonite Home received $24,103 for a project the retirement community says will break down barriers and isolation for seniors at Fairview and in the community by offering transportation, opportunities for Francophone conversations and companionship, nature outings, fitness programs and education.

The Family Counselling Centre of Cambridge & North Dumfries will use the $25,000 it received to fund a project to reduce the social isolation of rural older adults in the township by providing a weekly lunch and learn at a local church.

A project by the YMCA of Three Rivers will use $20,226 to expand on the accessibility of and participation in physical activity and education programs taht increase connection among older adults and promote healthy aging.

The province's Seniors Community Grant Program aims to help seniors over the age of 55:

  • live independently
  • live with safety and security
  • stay connected to their community
  • avoid isolation
  • achieve greater financial security and social connections

Programming can be delivered either:

  • remotely
  • virtually
  • in-person

Grants range from $1,000 to up to $25,000.
