A zoning bylaw amendment application has been submitted for 20 Guelph Ave to allow an indoor golf simulator business to move in.

The Golfers Academy has taken the next step in securing its newest location in Hespeler Village.

The indoor golf simulator business has submitted a zoning bylaw amendment application to allow 20 Guelph Ave to permit commercial-recreational uses. The building is currently zoned for industrial use only after previously being home to a custom steel fabrication shop.

A site-specific provision is also requested to require one parking space per tee and a minimum of two spaces for staff. A total of nine tees are planned for players, bringing the number of spaces needed to 11.

No exterior changes are being proposed for the building or site.

The facility will feature nine bays, a putting green and TrackMan simulators that give players all the analytics and analysis of their game while playing on one of over 260 courses from around the world, according to owner Jason Faubert.

Faubert also owns The Golfers Academy in Burlington and said last month he hoped to open the doors in Cambridge in December.

He pointed to current and projected growth of the core as reasons he was looking to bring the business to the city.

"We looked at the location and how the city is building," Faubert said.

"There's high rises and condominiums being built. The area is really starting to improve."

A public meeting is planned for Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. inside council chambers at 50 Dickson St.

A council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5.
