A shawarma restaurant that's gained significant popularity on social media is making its way to Cambridge.

Anyone who follows food accounts on platforms like TikTok and Instagram may already know about Shelby's Shawarma and its signature bowls, wraps, boutines and boxes.

The food franchise has 2.1 million followers on TikTok and 575,000 on Instagram.

And it's getting ready to open one of its newest locations at 350 Hespeler Road in the plaza alongside the LCBO and Farm Boy.

Founded by friends Yazan El-Shalabi and Yasser Ali, the business began with a food trailer in Lambeth, Ont. The first restaurant opened in London in 2015.

According to the businesses website, new locations are also coming to Waterloo, Toronto, Barrie, Burlington, Markham, Niagara Falls, Oshawa, Ajax, Sarnia, Kingston, Peterborough, Scarborough and Quebec City. The chain already operates over 15 locations across Ontario.

The website states the Cambridge location is scheduled to open in the winter of 2024.

"We are on a mission to modernize the conventional shawarma by being innovative with the flavours we use and expanding these unique flavours nationwide for all Canadians to enjoy," the website reads.

Multiple attempts to reach El-Shalabi for comment on expanding to the city were unsuccessful.
