Work to improve the community's experience at Otto Klotz Park in Preston and Red Wildfong Park in Hespeler has officially started.
The City of Cambridge determined the parks were in need of a renovation and the equipment replacement was approved by council as part of the 2023 budget.
Construction began on Oct. 16 and the city says the two locations are scheduled to be closed for approximately four weeks.
"The scope of work includes installation of playground equipment and swings, with engineered wood fibre surfacing and park benches," the city said in an email to CambridgeToday.
"Equipment upgrades increase the play value of the neighbourhood park to better meet the growing needs of the community."
As part of the process, the city released two public surveys earlier this year to gather input.
The first helped staff describe to playground designers what equipment residents wanted to see and the second provided two renderings each of potential designs.
The two replacements come as the city is in the midst of developing its parks master plan. The plan also featured two surveys to gather information on what the community values and will guide the future of parks over the next 30 years.
Creation of the plan is ongoing and a youth summit is planned for Nov. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ted Wake Centre.
Older adults can have their say at a designated booth at the 50+ active living fair on Nov. 9 or at an older adult parks master plan public meeting being held at Langs Community Health Centre on Nov. 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
While construction is taking place at the parks, people are being advised to avoid the area until the temporary fencing is removed.
