Two upcoming virtual public information centres (PICs) will ask Cambridge residents for input on proposed road improvement projects that add lanes, roundabouts and multi-use trails to roads in two separate parts of the city.
One PIC seeks public feedback on the Region of Waterloo's $58 million in recommended improvements along Maple Grove Road between Vondrau Drive and Hespeler Road that would include adding roundabouts to the intersection of Beaverdale Road and Hespeler Road.
The proposal includes various alternatives for widening the stretch to four lanes and adding signalized intersections at Vondrau, Boxwood Drive and Speedsville Road.
The ultimate condition recommends a grade-separated flyover at Hespeler Road.
Funding for the project is included in the region’s 2021 Transportation Capital Program and includes $1 million for the addition of multi-use pathways.
Pending project approval by regional council, detailed design, and utility relocations are scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2023, with construction scheduled through 2026.
The Project Team will review the public comments as input for completion of the Maple Grove Road Class Environmental Assessment.
The other PIC is asking residents if extending bike lanes along Dundas Street North from Roxboro Road to Hespeler Road should be included in scheduled work along Dundas in 2023.
The Region of Waterloo’s original design concept for that section of Dundas Street did not include bike lanes due to the narrow roadway corridor.
But based on budget and technical studies, the region is proposing full pavement reconstruction from Roxboro Road to Easton Avenue, including the addition of a three-metre-wide, multi-use trail on the east side from Roxboro Road to Hespeler Road.
Residents can provide feedback for both projects at Engage WR from June 28 to July 30.
Further information is also available on the region’s website.
