The Region of Waterloo and representatives from CUPE Local 1656 met this morning to continue negotiations. The Region tabled a competitive offer for union members that was rejected by the CUPE Local 1656 bargaining team.
“We appreciate that CUPE Local 1656 employees deliver critical services to the community, and we know that affordability is top of mind for residents,” said Region of Waterloo Acting CAO, Mathieu Goetzke.
“We believe the offer presented to the CUPE team this morning was fair and competitive.
“We recognize that this situation is having an impact on both residents and Regional employees. I want to thank the dedicated Regional teams that are currently working hard to maintain services, safely and in accordance with all legislative requirements.”
The Region’s goal is to reach an agreement that continues to support employees and is fair for residents.
