Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 19 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. That compares with 26 new cases on Friday.
It puts the overall total at 18,637.
The active caseload is down to 139.
18 people are being treated for the virus in a local hospital --- 11 are in intensive care.
75 per cent of residents 12 and over are now fully vaccinated. Over 84 per cent of eligible residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which works out to over 806,000 doses.
Here are some other updates from the region's COVID summary dashboard:
- 4,910 cases have screened positive for variants of concern - 3,123 are the Alpha variant (first found in U.K.) - 21 are linked to the Beta variant (first detected in South Africa) - 1,399 are linked to the Delta strain (first located in India) - 98 are linked to the Gamma variant (first found in Brazil) - 269 cases where a mutation has been detected
- 18,206 resolved cases (98 per cent)
- The local death toll is at 286. No new deaths were reported Saturday
- Over 553,000 tests have been done
There are currently seven active outbreaks in the region. Five are in workplaces:
- NEW Conestoga Lodge Retirement Home (2 non-staff cases)
- Place of worship 5 (25 cases)
- Retail 15 (2 cases)
- Food processing 13 (7 cases)
- Food and beverage services 20 (3 cases)
- Food processing 12 (2 cases)
- St. Mary's General Hospital - Fourth floor
Meantime, the province reported 578 new cases on Saturday --- 408 were unvaccinated.
