A new program aimed to assist older adults in accessing technology will let seniors borrow an iPad to help improve their digital literacy and allow them to participate in virtual programs.
The program by Community Support Connections(CSC), allows clients to borrow the tablet and provides information on how to sign up for free technology training programs and activities to reduce social isolation.
"We want to thank YNCU (Your Neighbourhood Credit Union) for supporting this program, and Community Support Connections clients," said CSC in a press release.
CSC is a non-profit organization based in Waterloo region that promotes the health of the whole person – mind and body – through support services. They offer personalized care that helps people live a healthy life in the comfort of their homes.
To register, email [email protected] or call their office directly at (519) 772-8787 to be connected with one of their community connectors.
Clients must agree to the terms of the lending agreement, including a $10 refundable deposit that will be refunded after the device is returned.
The loan period is three months for each tablet and clients will have a limited access to apps.
A short user guide and information about free resources and training in the community will be provided and clients can also ask to be matched with a digital literacy guide.
The digital literacy guides provide support in-person or over the phone to help users learn how to use their iPad.
