Preston Heights Community Group hosting award ceremony as part of open house

The Preston Heights Community Group is planning a night full of celebrations later this month.

The neighbourhood association is getting ready to welcome residents to view some of the renovations that have been completed to its new space during open house on Oct. 30.

As part of the evening, the Gale-Walker award winners and nominees will be honoured for their contributions to the community.

The Gale-Walker award is presented to individuals demonstrating community ownership, commitment and leadership that positively impacts the Preston Heights and Preston neighbourhood.

The award was created to honour the legacy of board members and long-time residents Michelle Walker and the late George Gale.

Gale was known for his tireless commitment to the community and could often be found behind the grill for local barbecues or helping fix up the community centre, while Walker has been a strong advocate for the PHCG as a board member for 10 years.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The open house runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 350 Linden Dr. on the second floor.
