The Region of Waterloo is ready to close the deal on the site of a new water tower serving the southwest part of Cambridge.
Regional council will be asked to approve an agreement to purchase 1233 Cedar Creek Road this week for the price of $900,000 plus applicable taxes and associated costs.
The rural property contains two homes and a barn, and sits next to Cambridge Veterinary Services.
The project is part of estimated $21 million plan to upgrade the regional water system in Cambridge and North Dumfries through 2028.
Part of the plan included work in 2021 to decommission and dismantle the Inverness Water Tower between Grand Ridge and Dalkeith drives in south Cambridge.
Upcoming work will also include well house upgrades to supply water from two wells in Blair, improvements at the St. Andrews pumping station and tank site, and various watermain upgrades.
“The land acquisition is for a new water tower to serve a portion of southwest Cambridge and Lloyd Brown, located in North Dumfries," confirmed Pam Law, manager of water engineering and planning for the region, in an email to CambridgeToday. "The new water tower is required to meet the day-to-day demands of the community as it grows as well as to provide fire protection.”
Law didn't provide a timeline for the start of construction.
