Members of Cambridge council including Coun. Corey Kimpson, Mayor Jan Liggett, and Coun. Adam Cooper, view the museum’s new exhibit marking the 50th anniversary of the Cambridge Fire Department.

The Fire Hall Museum has unveiled a new exhibit to celebrate the creation and evolution of the fire department in Cambridge.

The modest display traces the development of the department from its creation with the amalgamation of Galt, Preston and Hespeler in 1973, a news release states.

“We are very proud of this exhibit, which reflects the heritage of both the City of Cambridge and the formation of the Cambridge Fire Department, “ said Rob Brisson, museum chair and a 30-year veteran of the Cambridge Fire Department. “It’s an honour to be a part of both.

The exhibit was developed over the winter by board director Bob Toth and museum volunteers. Toth served 36 years with the Cambridge Fire Department and is a founder of the Fire Hall Museum and Education Centre.

“This exhibit accurately depicts the evolution of the Cambridge Fire Department from its inception in 1973 to the present,” Toth said. “It brings the story we tell at the museum of the fire service in Cambridge up to date.”

The Fire Hall Museum & Education Centre is located at 56 Dickson St., Cambridge. The museum is open Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and during special events staged in neighbouring Civic Square.
