The work of local and international artists can be seen all over the walls of buildings in Downtown Cambridge.
On Saturday, those artists and their artwork were highlighted during a guided mural walking tour put on by Stroll Walking Tours in partnership with Downtown Cambridge BIA.
Juanita Metzger of Stroll Walking Tours wowed enthusiastic onlookers by showcasing the large works of art and explaining how they came to be.
“Cambridge has some murals that are truly hidden gems,” Metzger said. “The works by international artists are rare within Waterloo Region and more people should know about them. My hope is that it helps to connect people to the spaces and history of their city that they didn’t know about before. Walking in any area makes you look at things in a different way. Walking tours are really about observing, looking and paying attention to things at a different pace.”
The art was created by artists from near and far, ranging from locally in Cambridge to the United Kingdom, South Africa, Portugal and Belgium.
Downtown Cambridge BIA executive director Brian Kennedy is thrilled to offer residents the opportunity to explore the unique history of the Galt core.
“We’re really excited to be partnering with Stroll Walking Tours to highlight the incredible murals just waiting to be discovered behind every corner downtown,” Kennedy said in a release. “The stroll also allows those new to and seasoned within our city the opportunity to rediscover downtown; the amazing shops and restaurants while also enjoying the beautiful architecture and river scape.”
For those that missed this past Saturday’s walk, there are four more scheduled throughout September and into October.
