The 12-seat Little Prince Micro-Cinema in Stratford, which holds the Guinness World Record for Smallest Purpose Built Cinema, has now been recognized as one of the 50 “most heavenly picture palaces and movie houses on the planet” by Time Out, a global online magazine.
The 16.29 square metre cinema was built as a passion project by founder Leigh Cooney in 2020, and acknowledged by Guinness in 2021.
The Little Prince operates year-round and hosts both private and public screenings of classic cinema from the Silent Era to modern blockbusters.
“This is truly an honour,” Cooney said in a new release, “on par with receiving our Guinness certification, or being referenced on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert."
"To be one of only two Canadian cinemas on the list, and one of only 50 out of over 200,000 worldwide, really makes it feel exclusive,” Cooney added.
Cooney is currently putting the finishing touches on a second, equally intimate, Little Prince location, this time in Cambridge's Gaslight District.
