Construction crews rolled in the excavator and started knocking down the walls of the old Kinsmen building in the parking lot of the Preston Auditorium to make way for the $29 million expansion.

Crews have started the arduous process of demolishing the parks services, gymnastics and Kin Club/storage buildings to make way for the 71,000 sq ft building.
The demolition will make way for improvements to the existing change rooms, ice pad, ice resurfacing room and other amenities and the addition of a new NHL size ice pad, additional seating, multipurpose rooms and office space.
With work expected to start early next year, the city estimates that it will take around two years to complete.
A tender for the project was advertised at the end of the summer and city staff is expected to have a recommendation tabled for council consideration Nov. 28.
