As the cold days of winter continue, the Kin Club of Cambridge is planning on spreading a little warmth this weekend.

Saturday is Kin Kindness Day and the local club will be out and about doing good deeds.

"Kin Kindness Day is a way for members and clubs to make people smile and thank their community for their ongoing support," Christa Bailey, community outreach coordinator for the not-for-profit, said.

"The day is also a way to celebrate and honour Kin Canada's 105-year history of serving the community's greatest need."

The day will begin with members of the club making a donation to the Cambridge and District Humane Society. It had previously donated $2,000 during a past fundraiser.

Members will then head off into the community to surprise "local heroes" with treats.

Helping others is nothing new to Bailey and the club.

Over their 80-year history in the city, they've supported causes like the humane society, Cambridge Food Bank and the Salvation Army Christmas Wish Tree.

Community projects like the playground equipment in Riverside Park, splash pads, the pavilion in Central Park and a handicap van given to the Cambridge Capables have all received financial backing from the Kin Club.

"As a service group, we need to raise money to do what we can," Bailey said.

"We can't do this without the ongoing support of our community.  Kin Kindness Day is our way of spreading kindness and smiles."
