The Fashion History Museum on Queen Street in Hespeler will host a Fabric Sale from Jan. 3 to 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sale will feature a variety of fabrics from vintage crepe; printed quilting cotton; bolts of silk and tulle; and off-cuts and bolt ends of woolen yardages from luxury textile manufacturers. Purchases can be made with credit/debit cards and cash. Admission to the sale is free and ‘Pay-What-You-Can’ for the museum.
The fabric sale is part of the museum’s mandate to encourage more sustainable practices for textile consumption.
FHM curatorial director Jonathan Walford explains that “nearly 92 million tons of clothing waste ends up in our landfills every year and only 20 per cent of textiles are collected for reuse or recycling.”
The Fashion History Museum was founded in 2004 and all proceeds from this sale go towards the care and growth of the museum’s permanent collection of over 10,000 fashion objects spanning four centuries.
