Here are the major road projects the City of Cambridge has in store this year

The 2025 budget includes $54.3 million in capital works, a majority going towards road reconstruction projects

As the weather gradually warms up following a snowy winter, road crews are gearing up for projects as construction season is on the horizon. 

The approved City of Cambridge 2025 Mayor’s Budget includes $54.3 million in capital projects almost three-quarters of which goes towards infrastructure renewal such as road reconstruction, sanitary sewers and watermain relining, and laneway and parking lot renewal. 

Cooper Street

A full reconstruction of Cooper Street from the Speed River storm outlet to Phin Ave. is expected to take place starting this year and carry over into next year. The project is said to include replacement of watermain, sanitary sewers, storm sewers and road infrastructure due to deterioration and to address flooding concerns on the street. 

This project will also see the replacement of the sidewalk, curb, traffic signs and hydro pole relocation. 

It has a budget of $5.9 million.

Richardson Street, Kay Street and Byng Avenue

A trio of West Galt streets are expected to see some infrastructure work to the tune of $4.8 million.

Richardson Street and Kay Street, between Cedar Street to Victoria Avenue for both, will see replacement of watermain, sanitary sewers, storm sewers and road infrastructure due to deterioration. 

Byng Avenue, from Salisbury Avenue to its end, will see watermain and road infrastructure work. 

Bruce Street and Spruce Street

On the other side of the river in Galt, there’s $3.2 million earmarked for a reconstruction of Bruce Street, from Harris Street to Main Street, and Spruce Street, from Bruce Street to Main Street. 

This work will include replacement of the watermain, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, road infrastructure, sidewalks, curbs and utility relocation. 

Queen Street West

Reconstruction of Queen Street West from Shepherd Avenue to Rooshill Avenue and Winston Boulevard to Weaver Street in Hespeler includes replacement of watermain, sanitary

sewers, storm sewers and road infrastructure. Also includes replacement of sidewalk, curb, traffic signs, and hydro pole relocation. Winston Street to Weave Street is watermain replacement only.

This project’s budget is $3.2 million.

Kerr Street and Metcalfe Street

Just over $3 million is going towards reconstruction of Kerr Street from Wellington Street to Beverly Street and Metcalfe Street from Blair Road to Park Hill Road West.

Like the other projects, this will include replacement of the road infrastructure, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermain, traffic signs, sidewalk and curb.
