The Gaslight District is offering a free, interactive exhibit this week that explores how important playing in public is to a community.

The JOY Exhibition is a 10,000 sq. ft. interactive space at The Gaslight District that lets people walk through some of the ideas found within book The JOY Experiments, co authored by Scott Higgins of HIP Developments and Paul Kalbfleisch.

The exhibition is described as "a playful and visually appealing experience" that encourages everyone to think about the role joy plays in solving the problems, in our politics, our future, as well as overcoming anxiety, fear and loneliness.

“You’ll be invited to take a spin on a spun chair.”

“You’ll be invited to build a house out of pool noodles”

The JOY Exhibition is creative vision of Paul Kalbfleisch and curated by Paul Kalbfleisch and Lucy Bilson.

Incorporated into the Exhibition are visual expressions of joy by a group of Waterloo Region artists who share a belief that a strong community is found within the commonalities and respect we share with each other and nature.

The exhibit, located above The Bellfower Market on Grand Avenue South, is open Wednesday to Sunday through Aug. 26 from noon to 6 p.m.
