As the weather cools, winter sports are getting ready to take over the local sports scene.
In preparation for a new season, the Galt Country Club is hosting a curling open house on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. to try and increase interest in the game.
"The open house is offered by the club to promote the game of curling in Cambridge," Bob McKendrick, director of the club responsible for curling said.
"This is an informal drop-in event to allow people to inquire about the instruction and leagues available, and to ask questions from the league convenors."
The club offers 10 different leagues for both casual and competitive players.
There are also opportunities for people who have never stepped foot on the ice but want to give the sport a try.
"For people new to curling we offer a Learn to Curl program," McKendrick said.
"We also have a beginners league for people who have graduated from the program."
Convenors will be available to assist anyone with questions about the appropriate skill levels for the various leagues.
People interested in signing up can do so at the event.
The Galt Country Club was established in 1906 and features an 18-hole golf course, four ice sheets for curling and a banquet hall.
