The Galt Jazz music series will launch the inaugural Cambridge Jazz Festival at Tapestry Hall this spring.
The April 27 event aims to bring together music lovers from across the region to experience the joy of live jazz and will feature a diverse and accessible lineup of acclaimed jazz artists.
Consistent with its mission to give back to the community, the Cambridge Jazz Festival aims to not only become a signature cultural event for the city and beyond, but will donate a portion of its proceeds to the Cambridge Food Bank, says a press release.
The festival will take place at Tapestry Hall from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tapestry Hall, nestled in the iconic Gaslight District on Grand Avenue.
The day’s performers will include local favourite Tim Louis and his 6-piece band, the New Orleans-inspired charm of Red Hot Ramble, the emcee talents of singer and radio broadcaster Heather Bambrick with her A-list ensemble, and the polished and popular energy of Pretzel Logic to round out the evening.
Tickets for this all-day celebration of jazz are on sale now for $45 at www.cambridgejazzfestival.ca.
All tickets are general admission. Doors will open at noon and will offer complete in-and-out privileges.
For those wishing to further support the festival, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, providing an opportunity for the community to contribute to the event’s funding goals.
Rising from the ashes of the pandemic in 2022, Galt Jazz was founded by Dave Ottenbrite as a cultural organization with a social conscience, hosting 33 consecutive monthly high-quality music shows while raising over $10,000 for the Cambridge Food Bank.
“As relatively new residents of Cambridge, my wife and I are ecstatic at the thought of bringing some of our very favourite artists to our newly adopted city to share the sheer joy of their fabulous music," said Galt Jazz founder and committee chair Dave Ottenbrite.
The small but dedicated group of Galt Jazz volunteers has been recognized with multiple accolades, including the 2024 Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Arts Award and the prestigious civic 2024 Bernice Adams Award for Arts and Culture, further validating and solidify its impact on the region's cultural landscape.
