A working smoke detector gets the credit for letting a family escape a house fire in Cambridge Thursday evening.
The call came in around 6 p.m.
The fire broke out in the second storey of the home on Winston Boulevard, which is located near Townline Road and the 401.
Deputy Fire Chief with the Cambridge Fire Department, Brad Churchill, said the family were already outside by the time firefighters arrived.
"We can see open roof structure that has been charred in the attic space. We can see on the backside that is does look like there is a fire pattern ... on the second floor. Guessing from this location, I can't really say a dollar damage, but we know there is significant fire and smoke damage to the top half of that home." Churchill told CityNews 570.
No one was injured, but the family has been displaced. The Canadian Red Cross is working to find accommodations for them.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

I’m told fire crews have control of the fire and they are just putting out hotspots. Too early for a damage estimate and if the OFM will come in to investigate. @CityNewsKIT pic.twitter.com/Vuvyf0UlpL
