Last night Cambridge City Council approved the agreement outlining Greybrook’s $100,000 sponsorship for the naming rights of the atrium in the Preston Memorial Auditorium, located at 1458 Hamilton Street. Greybrook’s funding will support capital costs associated with the renovation and expansion of the facility.
“The newly named Greybrook Atrium will welcome athletes both young and old, and gatherings both on and off the ice,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “We are proud to partner with Greybrook and their generous contribution will help support an impressive new space that will be enjoyed by countless groups, for many years to come.”
The sponsorship provided toward the Preston Memorial Auditorium is part of a larger campaign to fundraise up to $3 million to support the capital costs for the renovation. "Greybrook is proud to support the City of Cambridge’s vision of fostering a vibrant community through enhanced recreational opportunities. Our contribution to the revitalization of the Preston Memorial Auditorium reflects our commitment to the growth and success of thriving communities. Local arenas are more than just facilities – they are gathering places where communities come together, friendships are forged, and future athletes take their first steps," said Jared Dykstra, Senior Vice President, Asset Management at Greybrook. “We are excited to contribute to this important project and look forward to seeing the revitalized arena inspire a new generation in Cambridge while serving as a hub for connection and growth.”
The renovation and twining of the Preston Memorial Auditorium will include improvements to the existing change rooms, ice pad, ice resurfacing room and other amenities as well as the addition of a new NHL size ice pad, seating, changerooms, washrooms and multipurpose and office space. Work is expected to be completed by late summer 2025.
“This is so much more than an arena expansion project,” said Deputy City Manager of Community Development, Hardy Bromberg. “The completion of this project will revitalize the space, extend the life of this facility, keep amenities at the centre of one of our core areas, and create a community hub for residents and visitors alike to connect.”
The Preston Auditorium renovation and expansion is a key step towards the objective in the Strategic Plan – Cambridge Connected, to support individual and community wellbeing by creating and activating places that offer things to do.
