The city is cutting sports organizations some slack so they can deal with the every-changing rules under the provincial Roadmap to Reopen.

A staff report part of the Aug. 10 council meeting consent agenda asked that council allow staff to waive the 14-day cancellation notice requirement without penalty to user groups.

The report said that currently all minor sports organizations operating in the city receive a 40 per cent discount off the private rental fee, which is subsidized by the tax levy.

Based on current cancellation requests, waiving the 14-day cancellation period will result in an estimated loss of $3,700 in rental revenue. The report further stated that waiving the 14-day cancellation period will provide a much easier administrative process and be applied only while Waterloo Region is with the stages of the provincial reopening plan.

Once regular scheduling of sports facilities returns so will the 14-day cancellation notice requirement, as well as the applicable charges.
